I've been listening to a lot of Vex'd lately, it certainly hits the spot when you want a dark garage/dubstep fix. I'm sure you've heard of them, might as well throw it out there though. They are a lot grimier than what you mentioned aswell. :P

Sorry, late to the party on this one, but here's some old-skool dark 2-step/garage recommendations:

* 2 Wisemen - Hardcore Garage EP blue label (Love for the London Streets/Murderer): http://www.discogs.com/2-Wisemen-Hardco ... se/1185105
* 2 Wisemen - Hardcore Garage EP red label (Come Back to Me/Hardcore Garage): http://www.discogs.com/2-Wisemen-Hardco ... ase/649607

These came out in 2000 and disappeared in a minute. A whole new subgenre of 2-step could have been built on top of these tracks. Reading the review of these tracks on the old Hyperdub site years ago is what first got me into 2-step, and the tracks still hold up today IMO.

* Stelf - Ed 209: http://www.discogs.com/Stelf-ED-209/release/2222336
* Trick or Treat - The Horns/The Exodus: http://www.discogs.com/Trick-Or-Treat-T ... ase/648552
* RIP Productions - The Chant (We R) massive tune back in the day: http://www.discogs.com/RIP-Productions- ... ter/131875
* Second Protocol - Basslick ditto ditto ditto: http://www.discogs.com/Second-Protocol- ... ter/178183
* DJ South Central - Underground Shakedown Part 2: http://www.discogs.com/DJ-South-Central ... ase/343281
* Heavyweight Kru - Bad-Ass Bass: http://www.discogs.com/Heavyweight-Kru- ... ase/126713

last 2 releases had tracks on a comp called "Garage Dubs": http://www.discogs.com/Various-Garage-Dubs/master/72813

(credit where credit is due to my man leozedog for recommending all these tracks to me except for the 2 wisemen releases...)

@Aaron Static - nice stuff there...I dig 'Take Me Away'. Look forward to digging around for more...

Wasn't talking so much about Paul Ibiza, just more the 2 Wisemen records. I also forgot the third, which I've never heard:

2 Wisemen - Hardcore Garage Green Label (Sex On The Beach/I Have A Dream): http://www.discogs.com/2-Wisemen-Hardco ... ase/432727

Also worth mentioning that Trick or Treat's The Horns is a 2-step remix (more or less) of Egyptian Empire's "The Horn Track".

More dark garage recommendations:

* Judy Cheeks - Reach & Spin: http://www.discogs.com/Judy-Cheeks-Reac ... ter/278211 The vocal mix is where it's at... Kinda comes off like deep gospel house/acid garage until the vocal breakdown, when the beat drops back in HOLY CRAP -- insanely dirty dark-ass bass provides so much contrast to the vocals. Amazing record. Update: Just noticed that the beat underneath this is from Spin Spin Sugar (AVH's Dark Garage remix)...
* Musical Mobb - Pulse X: http://www.discogs.com/Musical-Mob-Puls ... ase/238680 released in 2002 and totally ahead of it's time in terms of the current 808 worship
* Agent X - Decoy/Turbulence: http://www.discogs.com/Agent-X-Decoy-Tu ... aster/6931 2001
* Teebone w/MC Kie & MC Sparks - Fly Bi: http://www.discogs.com/Teebone-Fly-Bi/master/8258 Released in 1999, if you know Teebone's dnb jams then you have a good idea of what to expect. Kie & Sparks add some nice MC flava

I got that hardcore garage. it's the worst one IMO. The other two are sick though! #

Here's a couple from me........ not all of em proper dark like ghost, shelflife etc, wicked tracks tho......

Dom Perignon & Dynamite - Together (dirty four to the floor)
Es-G - Get Dirty
Oris Jay - Brand New Flava
Wookie - Storm
Blazin' Squad - Weighty Plates Volume 1: Standard Flow (Horsepower & DND RMX's) don't worry blazing squad got took out, its just elephant man
Hobsons Choice (one the first truley dark tracks)
Outlaw Breaks - Transmission
DJ Bigga G - Mind Body And Soul

You'll have to youtube em. I'm @ work..... ;)
